Men’s fashion trends move in slower cycles. There are distinct styles which; feature in, but are not unique to, the fashion trends of 2011. Many of the styles and trends that form part of this year’s collection will carry through to 2012 and beyond. So what styles, cuts and cloths should you look for when choosing that perfect suit? Here are few tips to help you choose.
Let’s start with modern suit styles. Terms such as skinny and slim are common terms in tailoring trend literature. Look for a suit that is not too skinny and not overly boxy. Choose a slim-fitting suit that accentuates the three, key elements of the masculine silhouette, broad shoulders, a slim waist and slim trousers, in the style worn by a military officer.
The single-breasted suit is very on trend for 2011 and 2012. There are two dominant styles this season, the 1960′s inspired, ‘sleek cut’ and the ‘confident cut’. If selecting ‘sleek cut’ then look for details such as slim or medium notched lapels, upper button positioned around the navel and an understated breast pocket. If you want something edgier, the ‘confident cut’ with its peaked lapels and luxury details, will be the cut for you.
The double-breasted suit is back this year with a more modern look. Double-breasted suits were initially designed to disguise a plump silhouette. They are now designed to accentuate and elongate the perfect, V-shaped, and well-honed male form. Choose a cut that broadens the shoulders and slims the waist, with a more prominent breast pocket and peaked lapels.
